WINDHOEK, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's Drug Law Enforcement Unit confiscated illicit drugs worth some 9.5 million Namibian dollars (700,000 U.S. dollars) from October 2018 to January 2019.
A statement availed Monday from Namibian Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said that 423 suspects have been arrested, 313 of those Namibian nationals.
Drugs that were confiscated range from mandrax, cocaine powder, as well as crack cocaine, while in December 2018 police confiscated 480,481 kilograms of cannabis.
Over the years, Namibia had been considered as a transit country for drugs, but recent figures, according to Kanguatjivi, suggested that Namibia had transitioned into a consuming nation.
