Latvia records 21.9 percent construction growth in 2018

RIGA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Latvia's calendar adjusted construction output grew by robust 21.9 percent at constant prices in 2018, the national statistics office reported Monday.

Statistics show that output increased across all segments of the Latvian construction sector as construction of buildings jumped 25.6 percent, civil engineering works quickened 11.6 percent and specialized construction operations surged 27.8 percent against 2017.

Output more than doubled in specialized construction works involving completion of buildings and finishing works like plastering, painting and varnishing, while demolition works and preparation of construction sites increased 75.6 percent.

An annual increase of 22.5 percent was reported in road and railway construction, and a rise of 15.3 percent in utility projects.

Meanwhile, construction of other civil engineering projects like waterways, harbors, industrial buildings and outdoor sports facilities slowed by 35.2 percent from 2017, according to the statistics office's data.
