HANOI, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- A 47-year-old man from Vietnam's central Thanh Hoa province has been caught red-handed transporting 10 kg of crystal methamphetamine from Laos to the province, the provincial police announced on Monday.
Local police caught Loc Van Duong on Sunday night when he was transporting the drug to Thanh Hoa's Quan Son district bordering Laos. Duong confessed that a Lao citizen had hired him to transport it to Vietnam at a wage of 200 million Vietnamese dong (nearly 8,700 U.S. dollars).
According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
