HANOI, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam gained 550 million U.S. dollars from exporting animal products, mainly pork, chicken, eggs, honey and fresh milk, in 2018, according to its Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Wednesday.

In 2018, Vietnam produced 3.8 million tons of pork, up 2.2 percent year-on-year; nearly 1.2 million tons of poultry meat, up 6.5 percent year-on-year; 11.8 billion fowl eggs, up 11 percent year-on-year; and roughly 1 million tons of milk. Part of the animal products were exported, mostly to Asian markets and Russia.

The country is creating favorable conditions for businesses to boost export of animal products, including chicken to Japan, and pork to China, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore.

The ministry is urging farms and traders to focus on improving productivity and quality, cutting production costs and ensuring hygiene and food safety.
