KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysian government unveiled plans on Tuesday to introduce an anti-stalking law to punish individuals who stalk, peep or pry upon others with the proposed legislation expected to be debated in the parliament later this year.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Liew Vui Keong, who is in charge of legal affairs said documents on the law would be sent to the Malaysian attorney-general for review and to the cabinet for approval, according to state news agency Bernama.

Liew said currently authorities were using laws related to criminal intimidation or assault which require the victim to have evidence such as video clip to prove the offender had touched or intimidated the victim.

He added that the bill was also a measure to prevent possible crime from happening to any individuals who might have been stalked for months.

"Let's not wait for something bad to happen before we act. Sometimes, the stalker might think that they have done enough stalking and would begin to commit an act of violence," he said.
