LONDON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The British Prime Minister Theresa May will be returning to Brussels for Brexit talks on Wednesday as the deadlock continues, a spokesperson with the Prime Minister's Office told Xinhua.

The spokesperson said that May is going to meet the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

Her latest trip came after Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay updated Cabinet on talks with the EU's chief negotiator for Brexit Michel Barnier who was reportedly "expressed concerns" over the issue of the Irish backstop.

The backstop is the insurance policy for stopping a hard border returning to the island of Ireland after Britain leaves the European Union on March 29.

The backstop, which is part of May's withdrawal agreement, became one of the main reasons her deal was voted down in Parliament in January. MPs later gave their backing for May to renegotiate the policy with the EU in a vote.

May is set to return to Parliament to update MPs again on Feb. 26. If she had not got a new deal by then, she will give the House of Commons a say on the next steps in non-binding votes.
