Chinese firm donates medical equipment to Tanzanian health center

ARUSHA, Tanzania, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese company on Tuesday donated an assortment of medical equipment to the Tanzanian health center in an effort to help it improve health care delivery.

The medical equipment worth 61 million Tanzanian shillings (26,125 U.S. dollars) was donated by China Goldcard Smart Group Co., Ltd. to Muriet Health Centre located in northern Tanzania's safari capital of Arusha.

Mrisho Gambo, Arusha Regional Commissioner, received the donation on behalf of the Tanzanian government.

The donated equipment includes sleeping therapy, special bed and lamps for the operating room at the health center, located a few kilometers from Arusha city center.

Qiu Liang, vice President of the Goldcard Smart Group Co., Ltd., said during the ceremony that the company donated the equipment in order to help the health facility improve health service delivery to the Tanzanian people.

"We will continue to extend our support to the government of Tanzania in various sectors," said Liang.

Gao Wei, Cultural Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Tanzania, said that it was encouraging that a Chinese company, which has yet to start operating in the east African nation, is taking part in scaling up health services delivery in Tanzania.

He said: "We are very grateful that we're taking part in promoting the warfare and helping improve medical situation in Tanzania."

Arusha Regional Commissioner Mrisho Gambo commended the Chinese embassy for the support which will improve provision of medical services at the hospital.

Gambo said the health center is serving more than 100,000 people from Muriet ward and nearby places of Terati, Sinoni, Sokone One and Olasiti.
