Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's overnight lead

TOKYO, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as investor sentiment was boosted by Wall Street's rise overnight on Walmart's solid sales.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 80.86 points, or 0.38 percent, from Tuesday to 21,383.51.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 5.44 points, or 0.34 percent, at 1,611.96.

Nonferrous metal, marine transportation and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
