TIRANA, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Albanian Parliament canceled its Thursday plenary session ahead of the Feb. 21 opposition rally, Speaker of Parliament Gramoz Ruci announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to Ruci, the session is cancelled due to the appeal given by Albania's strategic partners, based on the reports of law enforcement and intelligence bodies and for the preservation of the integrity of the Parliament hall.

Ruci called for reflection and more maturity and cooperation among the political forces.

"It is our duty to create space and the opportunity to return to the institutional path," said the speaker.

Meanwhile, Albanian State Police on Wednesday warned for violence and criminal activities during Thursday's protest.

In a statement, the police urged organizers of the protest to openly distance themselves from violence and call for respect for law by every protester.

Moreover, offices of the European Union (EU) delegation and other foreign representative in the country have warned Albania's opposition against violence.

Opposition lawmakers from the Democratic Party and the Socialist Movement for Integration have announced that they planned to resign from parliament.

The Socialist Party holds 74 seats in the 140-seat parliament.

On Feb. 16, thousands of protesters under the direction of opposition parties clashed with police and attacked the office of the Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The opposition protested against the government, asking for Rama to resign and for early elections. The protesters broke through the police cordon, attacked the front door of the prime minister's office, throwing Molotov cocktail and bottles filled with gasoline.
