SKOPJE, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Criminal Court in the North Macedonia capital Skopje on Thursday requested the parliament to remove the immunity as a Member of Parliament (MP) from former parliament speaker Trajko Veljanovski.

According to the procedures in the parliament, the request is forwarded to the Committee on Rules of Procedure and Immunity Issues, whose report is discussed afterwards in the plenary session.

The police in North Macedonia moved late Wednesday upon an order of the Public Prosecution Office to detain Veljanovski and two former ministers, Spiro Ristoski and Mile Janakieski. But Veljanovski used the MP immunity to avoid his detention.

The Public Prosecution Office gave the order for suspicion of their involvement in the violent events on April 27, 2017, when protestors stormed into the parliament and used violence against many of the former opposition members of parliament.

Meanwhile, the court has ordered a detention for 30 days for the two former ministers Janakieski and Ristoski. The detention order was imposed due to the risk of flight and the impact on the investigation.
