TRIPOLI, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Libya's eastern-based army on Thursday took over El-Feel oil field in southern Libya, according to the army's spokesman.
"Libyan armed forces take control of El-Feel oil field peacefully and secure it, in preparation to hand it over to the Oil Installations Guards," the army spokesman Ahmad al-Mismari said in a statement.
Earlier this month, the army took control of Sharara oil field, the largest one in Libya with a capacity to produce over 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been carrying out a military campaign against terrorism and crime in the south since mid-January.
The army is allied with the eastern-based government, as the country is politically divided between two governments in the east and the west, both competing for legitimacy.
