JAKARTA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) --- Dozens of houses and buildings were destroyed, and scores of villagers evacuated after whirlwind struck Sukabumi district of West Java province in western parts of Indonesia, a government official said on Saturday.

The natural disaster damaged more than 130 houses, one gas station and two shops in Cicantayan village, head of community police in one of the districts in the province Agus Priyono said.

"Those whose houses were rattled are taking shelters in relatives' houses, mosque and shelters provided by disaster officials," he told Xinhua by phone from the province.

The strong wind was happening along with thunders and torrential rain, collapsing scores of trees, according to him.

So far, there has been no report of injured persons, assessment of downside risks of the disaster is being undertaken now, said Priyono.

In January, a total of 16 people were wounded and hundreds of houses were damaged as whirlwind struck another district of the province, Bandung district, according to national disaster management agency.
