TUNIS, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- An army soldier was wounded by a landmine explosion in Orbata mountain in Tunisia's southwestern province of Gafsa, Tunisia Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
Mohamed Zekri, the ministry spokesman, said that the explosion took place when the soldier was taking an operational mission. The injured was transported by helicopter to the military hospital in Tunis to receive medical care.
"Earlier in the morning of Saturday, a shepherd lost his leg in a similar landmine explosion in the nearby Salloum mountain in the center of the country," a source from the Kasserine Regional Hospital said.
Since 2014, Tunisian authorities have proclaimed that certain mountainous areas in western Tunisia as military zones.
