WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The White House on Monday rolled out its Easter celebration plan, which will be held on April 22 and include the traditional egg roll.
"The Easter Egg Roll will take place on Monday, April 22, 2019, on the South Lawn of the White House," the first lady's office said in a statement.
"The President and First Lady are honored to continue the tradition of the White House Easter Egg Roll that dates back to 1878," it said.
The event will be free to the public and tickets will be allocated by lottery. Anyone who wished to attend can enter their application from Feb. 28 to March 4.
The statement also said those who wish to volunteer at the event may apply from Feb. 28 to March 7.
This year will mark the 141st anniversary of the White House tradition, first established by former President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878.
The festivities usually include various games, most famously the egg rolling, for children. Sometimes sports personalities are invited to participate in the event.
Last year the White House received nearly 30,000 visitors for the Easter event, which featured lawn bowling, egg hunts, cookie decorating and book reading.
