JAKARTA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will hold a regional volleyball tournament and a sub-regional championship before the SEA Games in the Philippineas this year, while targeting a gold medal in men volleyball in the Games, the association announced.
The regional volleyball tournament is set to be held in April, involving participation of eight teams from Asia, among them Japan, Thailand, South Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and others, chairman of Indonesian volleyball association Imam Sudjarwo said.
"We will invite eight teams from Asia in the tournament in April. For Indonesia, we will select players who showed the best performance during the recent tournament in Indonesia," he said, referring to the Pro Liga volleyball championship which concluded on Sunday in Indonesia's Yogyakarta province.
For the Indonesian athletes, he said, the event will be a warm up for them ahead of the SEA Games in the Philippines at the end of this year.
