MANILA, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will visit the Philippines on March 6-7, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.

The DFA said Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will welcome Mahathir at ceremonies in Malacanang, the presidential palace, on March 7 after which the two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting to survey and discuss cooperation in the political, economic, and people-to-people spheres, and exchange views on the topics of mutual importance.

During his visit, Mahathir is also scheduled to meet Philippine Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Gloria Arroyo, the DFA added.

This will be Mahathir's first visit to the Philippines since he assumed office in 2018.

During his previous term as prime minister, Mahathir undertook official visits to the Philippines in 1987 and 1994.

The official visit reciprocates Duterte's visit to Malaysia in July 2018.
