SYDNEY, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Some of the world's most iconic fashion pieces will be on display from Friday at the National Gallery in the Australian State of Victoria.

The exhibition features 150 garments from Europe's premier fashion houses, including a collection of Coco Chanel's little black dresses, a piece from Dior's 1947 debut collection and Yves Saint Laurent's iconic 1967 Le Smoking Suit.

The collection spans more than a century and includes modern pieces like the Alexander McQueen tartan suit, famously worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in 2006 as well as the mid nineties breakthrough tailored wineglass suit by John Galliano.

The exhibitions contributors hope to achieve more than an aesthetically appealing display, wanting to show how fashion reflects and sometimes spurs cultural breakthroughs for women and society as a whole.
