PARIS, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Paris Saint-Germain's female players became sponsors to the young girls taking part in the 2019 edition of the Allez les filles! (Go girls!) program, set up by Paris Saint-Germain Children First, on Friday afternoon, also the International Women's Day.

After the women's team finished their training session, the girls were invited to discuss with the players and build a real bond with these mentors, who guide the youngsters throughout the season.

"The government has made gender equality a primary cause for this five-year term, and needs private stakeholders, professional clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, to move things forward. Sport, namely because of its high profile and because it is broadcast on television, must lead by example and encourage diversity," said the French Minister for Sports Roxana Maracineanu.

Launched in 2012, the Allez les Filles! program is to introduce young girls aged 8 to 13 to sport and to make them aware of the long-term benefits and values that sport has to offer. The 50 girls signed up this year will be treated by the 15-week program to new sporting and cultural experiences to expand their horizons.

"Through its women's team and its Foundation, Paris Saint-Germain promotes women's sport and encourages young girls to take part in sport all year round," commented PSG's Secretary General Victoriano Melero.
