Civilians in eastern Ukraine get humanitarian aid from UNICEF

KIEV, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Civilians affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine have received humanitarian assistance from the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), authorities said Friday.

Eight trucks delivered some 108 tons of relief supplies from UNICEF to residents of non-government-controlled areas in Donetsk region, Ukraine state border guard service said in a statement.

The aid includes furniture, construction materials and medicine, it said.

According to UN estimates, 3.5 million people affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine need humanitarian assistance and protection this year.

The UN has decided to allocate 162 million U.S. dollars to help civilians in eastern Ukraine this year.
