BANGKOK, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Thailand is continuing to crack down on human trafficking rings nationwide, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan was quoted as saying on Monday.
Prawit, who concurrently acts as defense minister, chaired a meeting of the Committee on Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression at Government House during which he reassured the government's anti-human trafficking measures are being carried out, said Defense Ministry spokesman Lt. Gen. Kongcheep Tantravanich.
The committee considered the planned revision to an official report on Thailand's measures against human trafficking rings which is to be forwarded to the United States early next month, the spokesman said.
Prawit was quoted as saying the authorities will certainly continue to combat human trafficking rackets and rescue and protect victims with respect to the human rights principles.
The authorities have planned to eradicate hidden human trafficking rings preying on prostitutes, beggars and under-aged workers, besides illegal migrant workers, Lt. Gen. Kongcheep said.
Any government personnel allegedly found to have been involved in human trafficking businesses will be brought to justice without exception, the deputy prime minister was quoted as saying.
