SUVA, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Fiji's Land Transport Authority (LTA) issued 5,029 traffic infringement notices to drivers for the first two months of 2019, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) reported on Tuesday.

Offences include speeding, using a motor vehicle contrary to license conditions, drivers using unregistered vehicles, non-confirming window tinting, among others.

In February, the LTA said they had impounded 56 motor vehicles for illegal operations on the road as part of its road safety and enforcement operations.

LTA Chief Executive Officer Samuel Simpson raised his concern on the issue and warned motorists in Fiji of illegal operations.

"This is an important operation for LTA to curb illegal operations and deter offenders on the road and ensuring public safety. If you travel in an illegal taxi, you are not insured as a passenger."

Simpson said the LTA had increased its enforcement this year on the road and will work hard to ensure the safety of all road users.
