NEW DELHI, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Death toll in Tuesday's under-construction building collapse in India's southern state of Karnataka has risen to two, and rescue work is still on at the mishap site, local state government sources said on Wednesday.

As many as 37 people have been rescued so far, while some 15 persons are still feared trapped under the debris of the collapsed building.

The incident occurred in the Kumareshwar Nagar of the state's Dharwad district. The four-storey building was located in a commercial complex. A few shops had already been rented out, though the building was yet to be completed, The Times of India reported on Wednesday.

According to the official sources, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) joined local authorities to help rescue people from under the rubble.
