Jobless rate down in Austria

VIENNA, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in Austria fell significantly in 2018 and more people were employed full time, a new report has revealed.

The figures published by Statistics Austria on Wednesday show that on average 220,100 Austrians were unemployed last year, down from 247,900 in 2017.

This represented an unemployment rate of 4.9 percent, down from 5.5 percent a year earlier.

The number of non-self-employed workers increased by 67,400 to over 3.8 million, 65,500 of whom had full-time jobs.

The number of both self-employed and part-time workers remained relatively unchanged.

Job vacancies totaled 120,800, up from 97,400 in 2017, the statistics office said.

The number of Austrians aged 55 and over in employment was 45,500. The total number of people in new non-self-employed positions was 67,400.
