ACCRA, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday launched the paperless court system dubbed e-justice project in a bid to enhance the nation's justice delivery system.
Akufo-Addo said the project helps the law keep pace with the technology, ending the age-old "missing dockets" phenomenon and endless litigations, which have plagued the country's justice system for years.
He said when fully executed, information about the number of convicts, dates convicted and offence specificities, among others, will be shared with the relevant state institutions.
Additionally, the platform automatically assigns cases to courts and judges, a clear departure from the days of manual assignments, which had a tendency to pervert the course of justice.
Akufo-Addo hoped that all actors connected with the e-justice system will strive for excellence, and demonstrate integrity in the use of the platform.
The Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo issued a stern warning to people who attempt to destroy the project which is being rolled out by the Judicial Service.
"I will not deal kindly or lightly with any person who by any means attempts to destroy this system," she said, adding that, the project will have value if the people in charge commit themselves to making it work.
The Minister of Communications Ursula Owusu-Ekuful noted that the project marked a milestone in Ghana's justice delivery.
