WASHINGTON, March 27 (Xinhua) -- A fifth-grader in the U.S. state of South Carolina was declared dead on Wednesday by authorities following a fight at her school earlier this week.
Colleton County Sheriff's spokeswoman Shalane Lowes said the girl died at a Charleston hospital from injuries she suffered.
The girl, identified as Raniya Wright, was hurt Monday during a fight at Forest Hills Elementary School in Walterboro, a city in Colleton County, according to local reports, citing Colleton County School District officials.
It remains unclear how the girl was injured or what the fight was about, while the school district said in a statement that it is cooperating with law enforcement with the investigation.
