JAKARTA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's volcano of Mount Agung erupted on Thursday afternoon in Bali with no casualties reported, Indonesian authorities said.

"Column of volcanic ash could not be observed, but the thunderous sound was obviously heard in the monitoring post," according to the statement released by Mount Agung monitoring outpost administered by Indonesia's Center of Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).

The eruption occurred at 18:25 local time, making thunderous sound lasting over two minutes.

Alert status of the volcano located in Bali's eastern regency of Karangasem is still set at Level III. The highest alert is Level IV.

Residents, tourists and trekkers are advised not to do any unnecessary activities in red zone set at four kilometers around the volcano summit. Related authorities continue to evaluate the range of danger zone based on the volcano's activities.

Residents living alongside the rivers designated to channel volcanic materials are advised to enhance their vigilance for possible flows of cold lava and materials from the upstream should heavy rains fall around the volcano.

In the eruption of Mount Agung in 2017, over 43,000 residents were evacuated.

Intense monitoring has been conducted since then as the volcano continues showing activities. Some eruptions were reported in the past few months, but did not significantly affect local people's life. Enditem
