WASHINGTON, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The White House announced on Friday that Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi will visit Washington in early April on ties and regional issues.
U.S. President Donald Trump will hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart on April 9 at the White House, discussing bilateral military and economic relations as well as counterterrorism cooperation, according to a statement released by the White House.
The two leaders will also talk about developments and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, the statement added.
Sisi's visit came after Washington's highly isolated move to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a decision over which most United Nations Security Council members on Wednesday expressed regret.
Egypt stressed last Friday its fixed stance of considering the Golan Heights "an occupied Arab territory."
Israel occupied much of the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 and annexed the territory in 1981, although this was never recognized by the international community.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, which was signed in Washington in 1979 following the 1978 Camp David Accords brokered by then U.S. President Jimmy Carter.
