MOSCOW, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Russia's aluminum giant Rusal has fully restored exports of the metal to the United States and Europe after sanctions on it were lifted, Rusal CEO Yevgeny Nikitin said Monday.

Rusal is now working to restore the supplies of aluminum alloys, TASS news agency quoted Nikitin as saying.

The company is also starting deliveries under new contracts with Japanese and U.S. partners, he added, giving no details.

In April 2018, the United States sanctioned Rusal owner Oleg Deripaska, who, alongside other Russian businessmen, was accused of meddling in the U.S. presidential election, by freezing his U.S. assets and banning any cooperation with him and his companies.

But in January 2019, Washington lifted all the sanctions on Deripaska-owned companies, after he agreed to restructure the ownership by reducing his stakes in them and giving control to independent directors.

Rusal is one of the world's leading aluminum producers. Its output of the metal was 3.75 million tons in 2018, 1.2 percent up from the previous year, but its sales fell by 7.2 percent to 3.67 million tons in the same period.
