Cambodia's famed Angkor earns almost 36 mln USD in Q1, down 9 pct

PHNOM PENH, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Revenue from ticket sales to foreigners visiting Cambodia's famed Angkor Archaeological Park reached 35.9 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2019, down 9 percent over the same period last year, said a statement on Monday.

The ancient park received 787,900 foreigners during the January-March period this year, down 8 percent over the same period last year, said the state-run Angkor Enterprise's statement.

Most visitors to the site are Chinese, South Koreans and Americans.

The entrance fee to the park is 37 U.S. dollars for a one-day visit, 62 dollars for a three-day pass, and 72 dollars for a week-long pass.

In 2018, the park attracted a total of 2.59 million international tourists, earning 116 million U.S. dollars in revenue from ticket sales.

Located in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province, the Angkor Archeological Park, inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1992, is the kingdom's most popular tourist destination.
