Cambodian National Assembly convenes plenary session after 3-month recess

PHNOM PENH, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly of Cambodia on Monday began its second plenary session of the sixth legislature after a three-month recess.

Some 113 lawmakers of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) took part in the session.

Nation's King Norodom Sihamoni sent a royal message to mark the opening session, admiring the lawmakers for working actively to serve the nation and people of Cambodia.

He also praised the legislative body for cooperating well with the government to protect peace, stability, security, and safety for all people in Cambodia.

"I hope that the National Assembly, which represents the peoples throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia, will continue to solve out challenges to ensure a solid society with harmony, peace, political stability and development," said the king's message read during the session by National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin.

The monarch also commended Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen for his tireless efforts in ensuring peace, social stability and national development in all domains.

The National Assembly comprises 125 lawmakers. During the recess, the lawmakers visited their constituents in order to hear their problems.
