TOKYO, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged lower Monday morning as earlier buying on solid U.S. non-farm payroll data was offset by a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 18.16 points, or 0.08 percent, from Friday to 21,789.34.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.50 points, or 0.34 percent, at 1,620.25.

Mining, and oil and coal product issues led notable gainers, while insurance and bank issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
