BANGKOK, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been stripped of the rank of Volunteer Defense Corps General after he had been earlier deprived of all royal decorations by Thai King.

According to a Royal Announcement released on the Royal Gazette on Monday, King Maha Vajiralongkorn on Sunday endorsed the Ministry of Interior's petition for the revoking of Thaksin's rank of Volunteer Defense Corps General.

The ministry sought the king's endorsement to revoke the rank on March 29.

Thaksin was sentenced to a two-year jail term by the Supreme Court in 2008 and he is facing several other charges and has fled Thailand.

Last month, another Royal Announcement also cited 2008's ruling of the Supreme Court to strip all royal decorations of Thaksin.
