LONDON, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Visitors and tourists gathered at the famous Tower of London to watch the Changing the Guard ceremony last weekend were stunned when characters from a nail-biting television drama suddenly emerged, photos released by the British Army on Monday showed.

The British Army's Band of the Coldstream Guards, dressed in red tunic, suddenly burst into playing the theme music from the global hit program Game of Thrones.

As the public wondered in jaw-dropping amazement what was happening, characters from the TV drama joined the soldiers in a unique military display.

Emerging from the Tower of London's Bloody Tower, the Night's Watch marched with musicians from the Band of the Coldstream Guards and put on a dramatic sword performance.

In the television drama, the Night's Watch is a military order, whose members defend The Wall in the Game of Thrones kingdom.

It took over two months and precise military and musical planning to choreograph the spectacle, said a British Army spokesman.

The crowds had been expecting a Changing the Guard experience from the Coldstream Guards with a marching classic before they suddenly switched into the Game of Thrones tune.

The military spectacle was orchestrated to mark the launch of the hotly anticipated new season of Game of Thrones, starting later this month.

Coldstream Guardsman Sergeant Major Richard Maddocks said, "We play all over the world at all sorts of concerts and events, but this was genuinely a career highlight for all of us seasoned members of the band. I don't think we've ever had an experience like it."

"The Night's Watch stunned some of the audience at the Tower. They certainly challenged all us musicians into looking our sharpest and playing our military best," he said.
