SOFIA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian law enforcement officers have captured 169 kilograms of cocaine in the Black Sea near the coast of Shabla, some 25 km south of Romania, authorities said here on Wednesday.

The illicit drug, split into 150 packets put into six sacks attached to life jackets, was found on Tuesday evening after an alert by the Romanian authorities, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

Authorities estimated the value of the cocaine on the black market would exceed 41 million U.S. dollars.

Bulgarian authorities continue to search the area and vessels there, the ministry said.

At the end of March, the Romanian police seized over 1,000 kilograms of cocaine in an overturned boat and in its surrounding waters near the beach of Sf. Gheorghe, the southernmost estuary of the Danube.
