Spanish police confirms bomb threat in Madrid skyscraper false alarm

MADRID, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Spanish National Police confirmed on Tuesday that the bomb threat which caused a skyscraper in the Spanish capital to be evacuated at around midday was false.

The police confirmed in a tweet that "Finally we have been able to determine that the threat was false."

"We are proceeding to allow people back into the building and everything is returning to normality. The police are investigating the origin of the call," said the tweet.

The police had confirmed hours ago that they were "working in Madrid in the Torre Espacio, which is being evacuated" for security reasons.

The skyscraper Torre Espacio is in the north of Madrid. The 57-story building is 235 meters high.

Among the offices in the Torre Espacio are the embassies of Britain, Canada and Australia in Spain, The newspaper "La Vanguardia" reported that the warning phone call was received by the Australian embassy.
