Namibia beefs up netball coaching departments ahead of international fixtures

WINDHOEK, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The Namibia Netball Association, Tuesday appointed a host of coaches for a period of four years in a move to make the country's netball teams competitive at international levels.

The Board of Netball Namibia in addition to the position of head coach, recruited more than two coaching staff members by adding the positions of an assistant coach, attacking and defensive assistant coaches, the association's communications officer, Conny Samaria said Tuesday.

"The aim is to ensure that the positional aspect of coaching is prioritized and players get the best assistance possible, by the assistant coaches, while the head coaches will take overall responsibility for their respective teams," he added.

According to Samaria, the appointed coaches are tasked with the preparations of the different Namibian national teams in the following tournaments: the 2019 Debmarine Pent Series; annual African Championships; U21 World Cup qualifiers in 2020; preparation of the senior women's national team for the next World Cup qualifiers and the U19 regional participation.

Meanwhile, Namibia's first hurdle on the international scene will be the 2019 edition of the Debmarine-Netball Pent Series slated for Windhoek from May 7 to 12, where they will face off against Botswana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
