DUBAI, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) welcomed Wednesday U.S. President Donald Trump's veto over a congressional resolution that sought to end the U.S. involvement in Yemen.

"Trump's assertion of supporting the Arab coalition in Yemen is a positive signal of the U.S. resolve towards its allies," UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said on Twitter early on Wednesday.

The common strategic interests are best served with this clear commitment, he added.

The minister described the decision as "timely and strategic," saying that the Arab coalition continues to work without interruption to support peace through UN led Stockholm Agreement and its commitment to the humanitarian and political way of the Yemen crisis.

Trump on Tuesday vetoed a congressional resolution calling for an end to the U.S. support for the Saudi-led coalition's war in Yemen.

In a veto statement to the U.S. Senate, Trump called the resolution "an unnecessary, dangerous attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities, endangering the lives of American citizens and brave service members."
