BERLIN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- About 20,000 car fans are expected at a meeting of the car scene on Good Friday at the Nuerburgring racetrack, the operators of the racetrack revealed on Thursday.

The event, which is called "Car Friday" in the car scene, brings together motor sport lovers and visitors from all over Germany and neighboring countries who want to experience one of the "longest, most demanding and most frequented racetracks in the world," according to the operators.

Traffic jams and obstructions are expected around the racetrack in the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the surrounding villages, the racetrack operators announced.

Part of the federal highway near the racetrack will also be closed for through traffic in order to minimize the risk of accidents.

The Nuerburgring operators stated that police will maintain a strong presence around the race track and surrounding villages.

In recent years, there have been more and more daring burnout and dangerous driving maneuvers on the surrounding federal highways around the German racetrack.

The German police will particularly be targeting the federal highways after ten highly motorized sports cars on the autobahn A4 had an illegal race last year.

"The police know from experience where the tuning scene meets on Car Friday. If violations occur, the police will intervene consistently," a spokesman for the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior told the German public broadcaster WDR on Wednesday.

The German police will be focused on traffic safety and the compliance of vehicles with regulations, as well as the behavior of vehicle drivers.

In 2018, the police registered 474 illegal car races in North-Rhine Westphalia, according to the federal state's interior ministry.

The police therefore warned that "anyone behaving 'offside' in the area of the Nuerburgring must reckon with the consistent punishment of traffic offences, which can ultimately lead to an all-day ban or to vehicle seizures".
