ATHENS, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The organization "Revenge Conspiracy FAI/IRF-Mikhail Zhlobitsky's Cell" claimed responsibility on Thursday for the attack which took place on March 22 against the Russian consulate in Athens.

With a post on an anti-establishment website, the anarchist group declared "solidarity" with anarchists who have been arrested earlier this year, according to the statement.

In the early morning hours of March 22, two people who were riding on a motorbike threw a hand grenade at the fence beside the security guard post of the consulate building, causing minor damage.

In late February the Russian consulate had been also targeted by a group of anarchists who held banners with slogans of support for Russian anarchists.

Greece has a long history of small anarchist groups that periodically attack symbols of state authority, planting small explosive devices that usually don't cause injuries.
