BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Ueli Maurer, president of the Swiss Confederation, will pay a state visit to China and attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation on April 23-30 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Maurer was born on Dec. 1, 1950 in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland. He is a certified public accountant.
He was elected to the cantonal parliament of Zurich and the Swiss Confederation parliament, and served as president of the Swiss People's Party and president of the Association of the Swiss Vegetable Growers.
In December 2008, Maurer was elected to the Swiss Federal Council and served as minister of the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports. He became finance minister in 2016.
He was elected as president of the Swiss Confederation twice, for 2013 and 2019.
Maurer is married.
