Vietnamese leaders convey condolences over deadly blasts in Sri Lanka

HANOI, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's leaders have sent his condolences to their Sri Lankan counterparts over the series of deadly bombings in the country on Sunday, which has claimed 290 innocent lives, Vietnam News Agency reported on Monday.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on Sunday sent their condolences to Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, respectively.

The death toll from the multiple explosions has risen to 290, while over 500 have been injured, Sri Lankan police said on Monday.

No Vietnamese citizens have been reported among victims of the explosions in Sri Lanka, according to the Vietnam Embassy in the country.
