BANGKOK, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Thailand and Cambodia jointly inauguraged a Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge on Monday.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Techo Hun Sen co-presided over the ceremonial celebrations for the Thai-Cambodian Friendship Bridge which is open for public uses between the two neighboring countries.

The bridge, linking Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province of Thailand with Poi Pet city in Banteay Meancheay province of Cambodia, was designed to accommodate the cross-border transport of cargo trucks, villagers and merchandise daily. Consequently, permanent border checkpoints will be built on both sides of the border.

Prayut said that Thailand and Cambodia will continue to engage in joint development projects under partnerships of peace and prosperity and ACMECS cooperation scheme. The acronym stands for Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy organization between five Mekong Subregion states - Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.

"The Thai-Cambodian cooperation will be carried out in continual, sincere, intimate and stable fashion. That heralds the 70th anniversary of Thai-Cambodian diplomatic relations next year," Prayut said.
