PHNOM PENH, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Monday strongly condemned Sunday's horrible attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka that killed at least 290 people and wounded over 500.

"The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) condemns in the strongest term this senseless and deplorable act of violence," the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"The RGC is firmly committed to the fight against terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations," the statement said.

It said the government and people of Cambodia expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Sri Lanka, especially the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in the bomb attacks.

The statement added that the government and people of Cambodia stood in solidarity with the government and people of Sri Lanka at this difficult moment and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured victims.

Security has been beefed up in Sri Lanka after explosions rocked two churches in the capital Colombo and another one in the eastern town of Batticaloa on Easter Sunday. Blasts were also reported at four hotels and a housing complex in Colombo.
