BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Laotian President Bounnhang Vorachit will pay a visit to China from April 25 to May 1 and attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Born in August 1937, Bounnhang, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), has served as mayor and party chief of the city of Vientiane, vice prime minister and finance minister. He became prime minister in 2001.

After the eighth national congress of the LPRP in 2006, Bounnhang became a member of the Political Bureau of the LPRP Central Committee, permanent member of the LPRP Central Committee Secretariat, and the country's vice president.

In January 2016, Bounnhang was elected general secretary of the LPRP Central Committee at the 10th national congress of the ruling party. He was elected president of Laos in April 2016.

Bounnhang attaches great importance to bilateral relations with China. He visited China in May 2016 after he became leader of the LPRP and the country. In September of the same year, he visited China again to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

In May 2017, Bounnhang attended the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and visited China. He also paid a visit to China in May 2018.
