HANOI, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The funeral of Vietnamese former President Le Duc Anh, who died of serious illness and old age on Monday, will be held as a national mourning on May 3-4, Vietnam News Agency reported on Saturday.

During the two-day national mourning, national flags will be flown at half-mast at offices and public places, and recreational and entertainment activities will be suspended.

The respect-paying ceremony and the memorial service will be held on May 3 at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi. The burial ceremony will take place on the same day at the Ho Chi Minh City Cemetery.

A 39-member funeral organizing board has been formed with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong as head of the board.

Born in 1920 in central Thua Thien Hue province, Anh started participating in revolutionary activities in 1937. He was president of Vietnam from 1992 to 1997.
