CAPE TOWN, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Euthanasia advocate Sean Davison on Monday made a brief appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on murder charges.
Already facing two premedidated murder charges, Davison heard at the court that a third murder charge had been filed against him.
The third case relates to the death of athlete Richard Holland in Cape Town around November 8, 2015. Davison was accused of euthanizing Holland who was tragically injured in a cycling accident three years before.
Davison, 57, was also accused of administering a lethal amount of drugs to his friend Anrich Burger in 2013 after the latter became a quadriplegic following a car crash.
Davison was arrested at his home in Cape Town in September last year following the execution of a search warrant on the death of Burger.
In November another charge of murder was made against Davison who was accused of assisting Justin Varian, who had motor neuron disease, to commit suicide.
The state alleges that the murders were premeditated.
As the founder of the right-to-die organization DignitySA, Davison refuses to plead guilty and maintains that he has done nothing wrong.
Dignity SA advocates for the legalization of the right by terminally ill patients to choose when to end their life.
Davison, whose bail was extended, will return to court on May 24.
The South African born professor first made headlines in 2010 when he helped his terminally ill mother end her life in New Zealand. He was sentenced to five months of house arrest.
