Vietnam's industrial production up 9.3 pct in 4 months

HANOI, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's national index of industrial production advanced 9.3 percent on-year in the first four months of this year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Friday.

Main driver of the surge, the processing and manufacturing sector, went up 10.9 percent, contributing 8.3 percentage points to the overall growth.

Electricity production and distribution sector grew 9.2 percent, contributing 0.8 percentage points, and water supply and waste management grew 7.3 percent, contributing 0.1 percentage points.

Production of oil and petrol witnessed the largest output expansion on-year, at 70.3 percent, followed by raw steel and iron (up 67.1 percent), television set (up 42.6 percent), and liquefied petroleum gas (up 29.8 percent).

Meanwhile, outputs of phones' components went down 24.6 percent and crude oil down 8.3 percent.

Northern Thanh Hoa province posted the highest industrial production growth of 42.8 percent between January and April, tailed by southern Tra Vinh province (38.3 percent) and central Ha Tinh province (34.9 percent).
