One dead after fishing boat catches fire in Franco-Spanish borders: report

PARIS, May 3 (Xinhua) -- A trawler, with four sailors aboard, caught fire east of Cape Bear near Franco-Spanish borders on early Friday morning, with one of the crew died due to cardiac failure, according of local media.

Citing navy authorities, news channel BFMTV reported one sailor lost his life following a cardiac arrest during the rescue operation conducted jointly by French and Spanish services.

French signal station of Bear had launched the alert at 07:30 a.m. local time (0530 GMT). A SNSM boat rescue craft was dispatched to the trawler to provide assistance, it added.

The victim and the three survivors were transferred to the Spanish port of Selva.

No details were given on the fire's cause.
