3 people, including one little girl, wounded in Italy's shooting

ROME, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Three people were wounded, two them seriously, when several shots were fired into a crowded central area in Naples on Friday afternoon, local media reported.

A 32-year-old man with a police record was hospitalized in serious condition after he was hit by several bullets, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Also injured were a girl aged under five years old, and her 50-year-old grandmother. Both were hospitalized, according to ANSA.

Local paper Il Mattino di Napoli reported doctors as saying the little girl is in serious condition because the bullet pierced both her lungs.

Il Mattino described "the target of the death commando" as 32-year-old Neapolitan who comes from an outlying neighborhood where similar shootings have taken place.

La Repubblica newspaper said the child was hit in the shoulder as she was exiting a cafe with her grandmother, her mother, and another little girl.

The shooting began at around 5:30 p.m. local time in a busy and crowded part of town near the city's central square, the Piazza Nazionale, ANSA and La Repubblica said.
