Estonia sends condolences to Russia over Moscow plane fire

TALLINN, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Estonia Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu on Monday extended condolences to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the plane crash-landing at the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow.

"I would like to extend my condolences on behalf of the Estonian government and people to the families and relatives of the victims of this terrible tragedy," Reinsalu wrote in a letter.

"I wish for a speedy recovery for the injured." Reinsalu was quoted as saying in a statement.

Meanwhile, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, who met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow during a working visit to Russia in April, wrote on social media "Saddened to hear about the airplane crash at Sheremetyevo Airport. My heartfelt condolences to the families of all who were affected."

Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said on social media "Devastating news about the plane fire from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow. My sincere condolences to everyone affected."

41 people were killed after the passenger plane caught fire before an emergency landing Sunday at the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow.
